Barbara S McConnell began her studies in organ at the age of 6 years old in Michigan under the tutorage of Oma F. Earl. She began playing professionally at the age of 16 years old. She studied under Dr. Kim R. Kasling and Kathryn Lowe at Western Michigan University, graduating with her Bachelors degree in Organ Performance. Since that time, she has served as Director of Music in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan for Nativity Catholic Church, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church, and as Alto Section Leader, Cantor, and assistant organist at Holy Name of Mary Pro-Cathedral. She and her family moved to Springfield, Illinois in 1995 as she accepted the position of Director of Music and Liturgy at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Springfield directing the Cathedral Choirs and Diocesan Choirs. While in Springfield, she served as Director of Music for Sacred Heart Parish, Asbury United Methodist Church, and Jerome United Methodist Church. She has composed choral anthems, masses, and various other instrumental pieces. |
