Stephen Penton BA Hons MA MSc LGSM Hons PGCE
I am Director of Music of St Andrew's Church, Much Hadham, in Hertfordshire, where I play for services and train the choir. I occasionally give recitals, and accompany choirs who are singing services in cathedrals. I am also a pianist, particularly enjoying accompanying and chamber music, and I also enjoy singing (bass-baritone).
Prior to my current post I was Assistant Organist of Cirencester Parish Church from 2012 to 2014; and Assistant Organist of Saffron Walden Parish Church from 2010 to 2011, which included a number of cathedral visits and a tour to Germany.
Before these appointments I was Director of Music of a number of churches in London, taking responsibility for directing choirs, organ playing and planning music.
I studied music for six years at Durham University, acquiring a Bachelor's degree and then a research Masters' degree on the music of Arvo Pärt. I also worked as a freelance musician during this period. I then worked as a music teacher for ten years, in schools in and around London and on the Isle of Man. This included a number of musical tours, including accompanying a choir on a tour to an international music festival at Latour de France, in the south of France.
I now work as a librarian, but am still very active as a musician. |
